Which Viking Teams Will You Support?!

Your Impact

Your gift makes a difference in the lives of more than 250 WWU student-athletes and enables our coaches to do what they do best-coach. Your gift transforms the student-athlete experience and makes their dreams possible. Through hard work, determination and donor support, Viking student-athletes do not let anything stand in their way on the road to victory.

Why We Need Your Support

The University and the Athletics heavily rely on gifts from generous donors like you to support life-changing scholarships, provide teams with essential training, tools, equipment, and give student-athletes the opportunity to compete at the highest levels. Your gift creates the margin of excellence needed to make the Viking experience complete!

Student-Athlete Success

In 2024-25, approximately 300 students are active members in the 15 varsity sports at WWU, 6 for men and 9 for women. WWU is in its 27th  year as a member of NCAA Division II since joining the ranks in September 1998. WWU Athletics is enjoying another banner year, not only in competition, but also in the classroom with student-athlete success across the board. Recent success has been highlighted by the rowing team winning its ninth national championship in 2024, the softball program making a historical run in 2024 as well earning national runner-up honors, and Track & Field and Cross Country sweeping the last ten conference championships for men and women.

Excellence in the Classroom

WWU Athletics has enjoyed success not only in competition, but also in the classroom. In six of the last seven years, Western has earned the Presidents' Award for Academic Excellence, awarded to schools having an Academic Success Rate of 90 percent or higher in the last few NCAA Graduation Rate reports. WWU's 15 varsity intercollegiate sports programs recorded a school-record 91% Academic Success Rate to earn the award for the sixth time dating back to 2017. School athletic departments that achieve a four-year academic success rate of 90 percent or higher earn the Presidents' Award. Western also earned the award in 2017, 2018, 2020, 2021, 2022 and 2023, barely missing the mark by one percent in 2019.

Excellence in Competition

Over the last five years, WWU’s teams have combined for numerous Great Northwest Athletic Conference titles and have sent nearly every team to postseason NCAA competition. The rowing program won the 13th national team title in program history in 2024, with women’s soccer claiming the 12th national title in 2022, softball earned national runner-up honors in 2024 and women's basketball claimed national runner-up in 2022. The volleyball program has reached an elite national level winning four of the last six GNAC titles, playing for the national title in 2018 and advancing to the West Regional Championships in 10 of the last 12 seasons. The men’s golf program has advanced to every NCAA Championship possible since 1998 and the men’s basketball team won the NCAA Division II National Championship in 2012. And these are just a few of the many success stories and accomplishments of our programs. Help us continue to build our athletic programs to have even greater success next season! Make your gift today to guarantee a percentage is matched for our student athletes and you will make an extra big difference in one or more team's season!
