The Strength & Conditioning (S&C) program at Western Washington University serves as the cornerstone of our Athletics Department’s sports performance team. By implementing scientifically driven training and injury reduction programs, our S&C staff enhances the competitiveness of all varsity athletic teams. This comprehensive support allows sport coaches to focus on the technical, tactical, and administrative needs of their programs while ensuring our student-athletes are physically prepared for the demands of their sport. The S&C program is responsible for all non-practice physical preparation for nearly 300 student-athletes at WWU, including multi-directional speed development, jumping and plyometrics, complex weightlifting, conditioning, and rehabilitation and return-to-play protocols.
In addition to its direct impact on athletic performance, the S&C staff manages the Lou Parberry Fitness Center, a vital resource utilized daily by over 200 student-athletes and physical education students. Your financial support plays a critical role in maintaining and advancing this program. Contributions allow us to upgrade training equipment and technology, maintain our facilities, and provide valuable nutritional and educational materials for our athletes. Past support has enabled us to purchase cutting-edge tools such as a NordBord hamstring testing unit, Plyomats to measure jump performance, a Freelap timing system to track sprint speed and agility, and the TeamBuildr platform, which delivers individualized programs to each athlete’s mobile device year-round. With additional funding, we hope to invest in a $4,000/year motion capture system, enabling real-time kinematic analysis of movement and enhancing injury prevention and return-to-play processes. Your gift directly supports the health, safety, and performance of Viking student-athletes—thank you for your support!
