WWU is in its 25th year as a member of NCAA Division II since joining the ranks in September 1998. This season has been highlighted by the women’s soccer team winning its second national championship, the women’s basketball program sweeping the regular season and postseason conference titles and the cross country programs sweeping the podium at the conference meet.
Excellence in the Classroom
WWU Athletics has enjoyed success not only in competition, but also in the classroom. In five of the last six years, Western has earned the Presidents' Award for Academic Excellence, awarded to schools having an Academic Success Rate of 90 percent or higher in the last few NCAA Graduation Rate reports. With an Academic Success Rate of 91%, WWU was one of only four public institutions out of 44 NCAA II schools to earn the prestigious NCAA award.

Over the last four years, WWU’s teams have combined for 21 Great Northwest Athletic Conference titles and have sent nearly every team to postseason NCAA competition. The women’s soccer program won the 12th national team title in program history in 2022, with women’s basketball and women’s rowing earning national runner-up honors in 2022.
