Your gift transforms the student-athlete experience and makes their dreams possible. Through hard work, determination and donor support, Viking student-athletes do not let anything stand in their way on the road to victory.

Why We Need Your Support

The University and the Athletics heavily rely on gifts from generous donors like you to support life-changing scholarships, provide teams with essential training, tools, equipment, and give student-athletes the opportunity to compete at the highest levels. Your gift creates the margin of excellence needed to make the Viking experience complete!

Student-Athlete Success

In 2022-23, approximately 300 students were active members in the 15 varsity sports at WWU, 6 for men and 9 for women. WWU is in its 25th  year as a member of NCAA Division II since joining the ranks in September 1998. WWU Athletics is having another banner year, not only in competition, but also in the classroom with student-athlete success across the board. This season has been highlighted by the women’s soccer team winning its second national championship, the women’s basketball program sweeping the regular season and postseason conference titles and the cross country programs sweeping the podium at the conference meet.

Excellence in the Classroom

WWU Athletics has enjoyed success not only in competition, but also in the classroom. In five of the last six years, Western has earned the Presidents' Award for Academic Excellence, awarded to schools having an Academic Success Rate of 90 percent or higher in the last few NCAA Graduation Rate reports. With an Academic Success Rate of 91%, WWU was one of only four public institutions out of 44 NCAA II schools to earn the prestigious NCAA award.

Excellence in Competition

Over the last four years, WWU’s teams have combined for 21 Great Northwest Athletic Conference titles and have sent nearly every team to postseason NCAA competition. The women’s soccer program won the 12th national team title in program history in 2022, with women’s basketball and women’s rowing earning national runner-up honors in 2022. The volleyball program has reached an elite national level winning four of the last five GNAC titles, playing for the national title in 2018 and advancing to the West Regional Championships in each of the last 10 seasons. The men’s golf program has advanced to every NCAA Championship possible since 1998 and the men’s basketball team won the NCAA Division II National Championship in 2012. And these are just a few of the many success stories and accomplishments of our programs. Help us continue to build our athletic programs to have even greater success next season! Make your gift today to guarantee a percentage is matched for our student athletes and you will make an extra big difference in one or more team's season!
