The Vikings have been making a statement to cap off the first 100 years of Track and Field at Western. They have had a record-breaking year with our women’s team winning their first Outdoor Team title in the 22-year history of the GNAC! Leading to the team sweeping the GNAC team titles for the Outdoor season.
Over the two-day championships held at the WOU McArthur stadium, the Vikings recorded 13 individual event wins, along with an additional 19 all-GNAC performances.
Throughout the indoor and outdoor Track and Field seasons the student-athletes bettered their lifetime personal bests 284 times. The Vikings also established a combined 104 new entries in the all-time top-10 record book and set a total of 10 school records. One of those records was the Men’s Distance Medley Relay team who finished 7th at the Indoor NCAA National Championships earning First team All-American.
Not only were the Vikings able to pull off the sweep this outdoor season, but they also brought home both GNAC Team titles during the cross country season. Capping off and amazing career for Head coach Pee Wee Halsell as he retired after the completion of cross-country.
