WWU’s Diversity in Geoscience Club (DIG) is open to all members within the geology department or is interested in declaring a geology major (or minor, or just fascinated by geology!). Our goal is to build a sense of community within the geology department and act as a resource for students through the facilitation of club-led events. DIG is working toward making geology, field trips, and field camp more accessible to students by removing barriers regarding the upfront cost of outdoor equipment. DIG had created a, free-of-cost, gear bank and field skills series for department members to utilize. The field skills workshop also included a free crash course for front-country car camping. This club aims to help guide students with limited outdoor skills to succeed in fieldwork settings and to create a social space for students, as well as, a place for the discussion of issues faced by diverse geoscientists during our weekly meetings.
