We are the student-run chapter of SACNAS at WWU! SACNAS stands for the Society for the Advancement of Chicanos/Hispanics and Native Americans in Science, an inclusive national organization dedicated to fostering the success of all peoples, especially Chicanos and Native Americans in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math). WWU SACNAS has taken the responsibility of mentoring students interested in all fields of science. Our club helps by reaching out to students and providing information on research, graduate school, and jobs in STEM fields. Most importantly, we are dedicated to fostering a friendly and welcoming environment for people of all identities interested in pursuing a future in science.
Our events and collaborations are essential to many students whether they are graduating seniors, incoming freshmen, or middle and elementary schoolers just discovering their fascination with science. However, we do need funding to make these events, like our annual REU (Research Experience for Undergraduates)/Internship Workshop or GEMS (Girls in Engineering, Math, and Science) Fair, possible.
Most importantly, we hope that you can donate to our club so we can continue sending members to the annual SACNAS National Diversity in STEM (NDiSTEM) Conference. This conference is an incredible opportunity that allows us to learn more about exciting new research, find potential mentors, and support inclusive efforts to empower people of color in science! Last year, we were able to support six members at the 2021 SACNAS NDiSTEM virtual Conference with the assistance of funding and scholarships from WWU's College of Science and Engineering and the national SACNAS organization. With this year's conference held in Puerto Rico, the first in-person conference in three years, we would be grateful for any donations to support the participation of as many members as possible, so they have the chance to travel, learn, and network with scientists worldwide.
If you are interested in following along with some of our activities, you can find us on Facebook at WWU SACNAS Chapter and Instagram at WWU SACNAS.
Thank you for taking the time to visit our club's page as well as all of your support! We would appreciate any contributions you are able to make at this time!
