About the Team:

The WWU Women's Rugby Club was established in 1977 and has been growing steadily for the past 45 years. What was once a small, self-coached group is now a strong program of 30+ students who have found their place on the pitch and created an inclusive community while embracing all the amazing things this beloved sport has to offer.

In the 2021-2022, the Vikings placed 3rd in the PMRC Division 1 League. This was only our 4th year in the league and we have improved immensely as the season went on, now becoming a force to be reckoned with. Because of the pandemic we were not able to participate in a regular league season, which resulted in hosting and traveling for ‘friendly’ games. This allowed our team to participate in games in a non-traditional fashion and strengthen our rugby connections across the PNW.

Covid resulted in a 2020-2021 season where we were unable to practice or compete. During our current 2021-2022 season we have been working hard to build our team back up! Through numerous recruitment events we continue to evolve our amazing team. With our continued growth and improvement we hope to bring a fierce competition coming into this Fall season.

The resilient players of WWU's Women’s Rugby program welcome a fresh generation of newcomers each year and are constantly working to challenge themselves and grow as not only a team, but as individuals. We are so grateful for our amazing volunteer coaches Kaylie Gladwell & Charlie Ronan who contribute countless hours of their time to this team and bring a plethora of rugby knowledge. We wouldn't be where we are today without them!

How this Give Day will help us:

Our two primary goals for Give Day contributions is to lower our players’ individual dues and to expand the WWU Women’s Rugby community to our youth programs. As a club sport, most of our funding comes from the players themselves and the team’s fundraising efforts. Support from family, friends, and our community is what allows us to keep this team running. Donating on Give Day will solidify our teams’ foundations in what is truly important: the people that are a part of it. Once that goal has been met, any additional funds will be applied to league and tournament registration costs. This will allow us to keep playing and meeting new teams as we expand the rugby community here in the Pacific Northwest.
