AMSEC - Research Focused
A celebrated aspect of Western’s science programs is faculty-directed undergraduate research. This is central to our comprehensive education in materials science that allows students to actively engage in scientific exploration.
The Advanced Materials Science & Engineering Center (AMSEC) provides students this exploration and encourages their participation in scientific conferences held by internationally recognized organizations.
Students attend these annual events with their faculty mentors to present research at poster sessions which enhances intellectual and professional development. Attendance gives students networking opportunities to engage with individuals from other educational and research institutions. By doing this, they gain exposure to a broader array of materials science research that can’t be found at any one institution.
During COVID, student travel opportunities disappeared. Just this winter, students finally had the chance to share their research in person.
As conference events are being scheduled for the coming year, AMSEC wants to be ready to support student conference travel. Help us by donating to the AMSEC foundation fund to offset student travel expenses.
