Happy Give Day 2025!
Western's judo club has been around since the 80s, and we're still going strong with regular practices typically consisting of 10-20 people. We are an inclusive club open for all to join, regardless of skill level or background. A great place to begin learning this awesome martial art!
Last summer, an enthusiastic group of WWU Judo students traveled to Japan to study judo where it began- at the Kodokan! All thanks to donations and support from you!
It was incredible, for six weeks we stayed at the Kodokan and did judo everyday it was offered, sometimes even twice a day. When classes weren't in session, we explored Tokyo and experienced the bustling city, gorgeous parks, and incredible food. We made friends with many others from Tokyo and around the world, sharing the interest of learning judo. An unforgettable experience. We came back with insightful knowledge of Kodokan judo thanks to the wisdom and kindness of the senseis we trained with. We also gained a deeper understanding of Japanese culture and customs.
Due to the success of our 2024 trip, members have been yearning to return to Japan. Time to fundraise for summer 2026! This time, we want to train at both the Tokyo and Osaka Kodokans. We will schedule the trip around shochu geiko, an annual occurrence where we participate in 10 consecutive days of training during the hottest part of the year. A challenge we are very excited to take on. We lived cheaply, staying in the Kodokan dorms and cooking meals together in their kitchen. Though flights are expensive, and we are working to start replenishing club funds. The goal of this year's Give Day is to raise enough to cover flights for any students interested!
Your gift is greatly appreciated in helping us reach our goals. Your generosity will directly help support keeping the judo club strong, and let members experience an incredible journey at the birthplace of judo.
Thank you so very much for donating to our club, or sharing our page.
