The Western Washington University Sailing Team is an active group of undergraduate students that share a common passion for sailing.
We are an open, inclusive team that focuses on furthering the competitiveness of sailing as a sport among young adults. Despite being a fully student-run sports club, our team competes highly on a national level against varsity programs such as Stanford and Brown.
While being a competitive team that participates in advanced events, we simultaneously accept all sailors regardless of ability. We have found over the years that enthusiasm and a willingness to learn go a long way, and many of the sailors that joined the team with limited experience are now among our top competitors for District and Nationals regattas. This is a unique aspect of our team that has fostered a culture of belonging and acceptance, no matter a person's skill level coming in. Students who have joined the team also have found a place in the broader Bellingham sailing community, continuing to create a culture of inclusion and learning. Sailing is a life-long sport, and WWU Sailing has become a stepping stone for many in that journey.
Our program is completely student dependent - meaning our sailors coach themselves, organize all travel to regattas, and conduct all boat maintenance and repair. While we pride ourselves in everything that we do, it is difficult for our sailors to balance school, work, community, and sailing competitively.
Your donation would support the whole team and help get young sailors out on the water. Donations today will help our team by going to the following:
