Figure Skating

WHO WE ARE

WWU Figure Skating is an official United States Figure Skating Association (USFSA) intercollegiate team, competing several times a year in the Pacific Coast conference. Every year, we send dozens of skaters out-of-state to represent WWU and Washington State at both the sectional and national levels from October through March. Traveling to competitions is often a highlight of athletes’ seasons and provides primary skill-development and progress goals.

Our team is highly involved, totaling an average of 8 volunteer hours per rostered athlete. We average 300-400 logged volunteer hours per year and hold membership in many other student organizations, programs, and departments in a variety of areas, including the sciences, recreation, teaching, music, and psychology (among many others). In addition to our volunteer work, we take pride in what being a Viking means, and look forward to supporting our fellow Sport Club athletes on campus.

WWU Figure Skating not only provides Western students with the opportunity to get on the ice, but also serves the greater Whatcom and Skagit Counties by hosting a number of open skates and workshops throughout the year.

OUR MISSION

WWU Figure Skating aims to expand the local figure skating community by giving Western Washington University students the opportunity to learn to skate in an affordable and accessible way.

Year after year, our student athletes dedicate countless hours to honing their craft, in addition to their rigorous schoolwork in the pursuit of their degrees (both undergraduate and advanced).

Our goal is to raise $5,000 for travel costs, equipment, competitive registration, coaching, and facility rentals.

WHY WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT

As a competitive, community-oriented Sport Club program, we rely on generous sponsors and donors like you to help finance costly facility rentals and travel fees. It costs our team nearly $20,000 a year just to reserve and maintain weekly practices and monthly fundraising events. The majority of our funds come directly from skaters, as they each pay quarterly membership fees in addition to their tuition. We seek to remain true to our pillar of accessibility by prolonging raising dues, which can’t happen without you!
