Hundreds of Western Washington University Rehabilitation Counseling (RC) graduates are making a difference in the lives of individuals with disabilities every day. They work in both public and private sectors, including state & federal agencies, nonprofit agencies, veterans’ programs, workers’ compensation agencies, hospitals, and colleges/universities. Their job titles include rehabilitation counselors, case managers, independent living counselors, career counselors, program managers, advocacy specialists, and more.
Rehabilitation Counseling students engage in courses that cover theory & techniques of counseling, medical aspects of disability, case management, professional issues, multicultural practice, career development, and more. In the field experience courses, students gain real-life experience applying the knowledge and skills they have learned. Every Rehabilitation Counseling student completes a minimum of 750 hours of field experience, integrating theory with practice to become dedicated and qualified rehabilitation counselors.
