Western Washington University welcomes a vibrant community of 150-200 international and exchange students annually, traveling here on F-1 and J-1 visas from over 60 nations. These students enrich our campus with diverse perspectives and contribute to our community.
Unlike domestic students, they pay non-resident tuition, lack federal aid, have limited scholarship access, and their student visas generally restrict off-campus employment. Students’ families make significant sacrifices to fund their education here, believing in the value of U.S. higher education.
Unexpected challenges can jeopardize their dreams:
- Currency fluctuations dramatically increase costs
- Family financial hardship in their home countries
- Devastating natural disasters or economic instability abroad
- Unforeseen medical emergencies and their associated expenses
