Rehabilitation Counseling Program

Rehabilitation counseling is an individualized counseling process that helps individuals with physical, mental, developmental, cognitive, and emotional disabilities to achieve their personal, career, and independent living goals. This is accomplished in the most integrated setting possible, through the application of the rehabilitation counseling process.

Western's Master of Arts in Rehabilitation Counseling program prepares dedicated and qualified rehabilitation counselors who partner with individuals with disabilities to enhance their lives, including self-determination, independence, meaningful employment, and full community participation.

Program Highlights:

  • In the top 20 Best Rehabilitation Counseling Programs (U.S. News & World Report)
  • Only MA in Rehabilitation Counseling program offered by a university in Washington State · CACREP Accredited
  • Convenient hybrid learning blends online courses with in-person classes held in Everett
  • Internship and practicum built into the curriculum
  • Prepares graduates to obtain Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC) and the WA Licensed Mental Health Counseling (LMHC) credentials

Human Services Program

Western’s Human Services major attracts students from diverse backgrounds with a strong commitment to social and economic justice, human dignity, self-determination, and the desire to facilitate change.

The program has a social justice orientation, engaging students in critical analysis and reflection as they examine social issues at the individual, group, organization, community, and global level. The curriculum emphasizes community engagement and requires 380 hours of field experience that allows students to integrate theory, knowledge, and skills through work in human services organizations. When WWU was selected for the national 2014 President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll with Distinction, Human Services was one of the three programs recognized in this prestigious award.

Nursing Program

Western's unique program is designed for Registered Nurses (RNs) seeking to advance their careers with either a bachelor's or master's degree in nursing.

The RN-to-BSN program supports graduates of local community and technical college nursing programs to earn their bachelor's degree in nursing (BSN).

The new Master of Science in Nursing program offers two pathways for nurses to advance their careers as educators and leaders.

Through rigorous coursework, immersive practice experiences, and opportunities for community engagement, graduates are well-prepared to address the evolving challenges and opportunities that shape modern nursing practice.
