Help Support Global Humanities and Religions Today!

Dear Alumni and Friends of the Humanities,

I hope this finds you all well.  It has been both a challenging and rewarding academic year and Spring has just sprung in the Pacific Northwest!

Wednesday, April 8th, Western Washington University will be hosting its annual Give Day, a 24-hour online giving event. Global Humanities and Religions has set a goal of raising $5,000 to help us power student success. Please make a tax-deductable contribution in any amount that you are able to! If we pull together, even small contributions can add up to meaningful impact!

 What will your donation fund?

Our number one priority is funding scholarships for students who want to study the Humanities but find it increasingly difficult to in today's economy. We have one established department scholarship and you can help us to grow it, or even develop additional scholarships. We also increasingly have outstanding students who want to share their research at conferences, and need some basic funding for registration and travel expenses.   Donations to the general department fund also significantly bolster our ability to bring in guest speakers, including our annual distinguished speaker, a tradition now in its seventeenth year.

The CHSS Humanities Heroes Challenge! Donations on Give Day also put us in the running for an extra prize for the department in CHSS with the highest number of unique donors. It doesn't take much to supercharge our campaign!

You can also make a donation to support our one named scholarship: The Meagan Elizabeth Smith Memorial Scholarship for Excellence in the Humanities. This scholarship honors the legacy of Meagan Elizabeth Smith (1993 - 2015). An outstanding student, Meagan was scheduled to graduate with departmental honors in December 2015, with a Humanities major, a concentration in Religion and Culture, and a German minor.  Meagan was a member of the first student Leadership Team, a musician, and an athlete, dedicated to serving the many communities of which she was a cherished part. This is the first named scholarship in the fifty-year history of the department, designed to recognize academic excellence in the humanities.

With all best wishes,
