Your donation supports Materials Science students in a variety of ways:
Student Research
Faculty-directed undergraduate research is central to our comprehensive education in materials science. Summer research fellowships provide students an invaluable opportunity to deeply engage in scientific exploration and develop their skills in a guided and collaborative environment, thus preparing them for success in their future careers.
Undergraduate student projects that have been supported by AMSEC in recent years cover a wide array of topics: catalysts for solar fuels production, evaluating impacts of microplastics and nanopesticides, metallic nanomaterial biosensors, reclaimed energy waste materials for thermal energy storage, biocompatible quantum dots for bioimaging, studying the geology of Mars, creating robust and light-weight composites for aerospace, and more!
Student Conference Travel
At AMSEC, we encourage student participation in scientific conferences held by internationally recognized organizations. Students attend these annual events with their faculty mentors to present research at poster sessions which enhances intellectual and professional development. Attendance gives students networking opportunities to engage with individuals from other educational and research institutions. By doing this, they gain exposure to a broader array of materials science research that can be found at any one institution.
AMSEC has recently supported travel for students attending national meetings of the American Chemical Society, the American Geophysical Union, Plastics Recycling Conference, and Society for the Advancement of Material and Process Engineering.
