The WWU Society of Professional Journalists Chapter is a student-led and student-run club on Western's campus - affiliated with the 100+ year-old national organization. We aim to educate students about professional development, while also providing them the necessary tools to further their career, whether that be in or outside the realm of journalism.
Each quarter our officers host a variety of panels, informational sessions and events to encourage ethics and bridge classroom information to the field. Our chapter also travels to conferences to immerse students in the world of journalism, all while bringing that knowledge back to share with the community on campus.
Some workshops we have conducted in the past include, but are not limited to:
-Techniques for Inclusive Writing
-Professional Development in Broadcasting and Journalism, featuring Joshua Johnson
-How to report on Immigration: Tips on Immigration Advocacy Journalism
As future journalists, we hope to educate, inspire and work with our peers along with others in the professional realm.
We would appreciate your help in continuing our service to journalism students and others interested in media issues/ethics.
Sincerely,
Sophie, Julia, Jack, Eli, Aria, Finn & Professor Watt
