Who Are We?

The Western Washington University Sailing Team is an active group of undergraduate students that share a common passion for sailing. 

We are an open, inclusive group that focuses on furthering the competitiveness of sailing as a sport among young adults. Despite being a student-run sports club, our team competes on a national level against varsity programs such as Stanford and Brown. 

Even though we are a competitive team that participates in high level events, we accept all sailors regardless of ability. We have found over the years that enthusiasm and a willingness to learn go a long way, and many of the sailors that joined the team with limited experience are now among our top competitors for District and Nationals regattas. Students who have joined the team also have found a place in the broader Bellingham sailing community, continuing to create a culture of inclusion and learning.

Your Impact

Our program is completely student-run, meaning our sailors coach themselves, organize all travel to regattas, and conduct all boat maintenance and repair. While we pride ourselves in everything that we do it is difficult for our sailors to balance school, work, community, and sailing competitively. 

Your donation would support the whole team and help get young sailors out on the water. Donations today will help our team by going to the following: 

• Travel scholarships for students to attend regattas
• Fleet replacement
• Race sail replacement
• Hiring a coach 
• Building community involvement
• Creating beyond-college sailing opportunities
