What will your donation help support?
Our students are doing amazing research. We’ve had a record number of students whose research has been accepted to academic conferences, including the Linguistic Society of America Annual Meeting, the Northwest Linguistics Conference, and the West Coast Conference on Formal Linguistics. Your donations allow them to attend, to present their research, to receive feedback, and continue putting Western on the map as the best place for undergraduate linguistics! Read about one of our students whose life was impacted by our generous donors: WWU Linguistics Student Presents Research at LSA Conference
Generous donations have allowed some students to continue doing research even after graduation. Sylvia Cohen,’22, conducted research with Dr. Jordan Sandoval in her Sounds and Letters in Perception and Production Lab, and Royce Gibson,’23, worked with Dr. Virginia Dawson to investigate the distribution of optional plural marking in Tiwa (Tibeto-Burman; India).
We want our students to be wholeheartedly focused on their learning, not worrying about how they’ll pay for college or whether they’ll be faced with the burden of academic debt, which is why we awarded over $3,000 in undergraduate scholarships last year alone.
What do you get out of it?
First and foremost, some immediate mood-boosting endorphins. Plus, each of our donors will receive one of our BRAND NEW unique WWU Linguistics stickers (Sticker is 3 in diameter and is chosen at random.)
AND anyone who donates $100 or more to WWU Linguistics, we will create a custom sticker for you with your name written phonetically! When you make your donation, indicate which option sticker you would like, Option 1, 2, 3, or 4, in the box, “Is there anything else you’d like us to know?” If you don’t put an option down, we’ll decide for you! (Psst… you can make more than one donation)
"Being awarded the Linguistics Student Scholarship felt like an affirmation of the dedication put into my linguistics coursework and club duties. This recognition in turn encouraged me to continue to work hard, in addition to financially assisting in my ability to do that work." ~ Red Sheets, Recipient of the 2023-2024 Linguistics Student Scholarship.
