Communication Sciences and Disorders
Help Support Communication Sciences & Disorders!

About

The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD) offers engaging and challenging courses and clinical experiences for students studying at the undergraduate, post-baccalaureate, and graduate levels. Upon graduation, undergraduate students majoring in CSD will be well-prepared to pursue advanced degrees in speech-language pathology or audiology, or utilize transferable communication and collaboration skills in other careers. Our Master's degree program in speech-language pathology and Clinical Doctorate in audiology provide exceptional academic, clinical, and research opportunities for students who intend to practice in educational and/or medical settings.

Impact

Your gift to the Communication Sciences and Disorders Department will fund student-faculty research, guest speakers, clinic supplies, materials and equipment, travel to conferences, career networking opportunities, and most importantly, scholarships.

New BIPOC Scholarship

The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD) at Western Washington University is proud to announce a new scholarship initiative. The CSD Department acknowledges that systemic racism exists and limits access to higher education for Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC) students. Furthermore, the Department affirms these obstacles exist within our own program. The faculty and staff are committed to de-constructing these obstacles. This scholarship represents one initiative by the CSD Department to address this issue.

The funds for this inaugural scholarship were provided by the department. We respectfully request donations to ensure future awards.

Applicants for this inaugural award must be incoming or current graduate students (M.A. or Au.D.) of the CSD program.

The successful applicant of the CSD BIPOC Student Scholarship will receive up to a $2,000 award, based on financial need. The award will be open to all students the first year, and then rotated between the SLP and Au.D. program for each year thereafter.

Memorial Scholarships

We are also working to grow our named scholarships established in honor of beloved faculty who have retired or passed on:

  • Eva Baharav Memorial Scholarship
  • Dr. Barbara Mathers-Schmidt Scholarship for Speech-Language Pathology
  • Dr. Loren Webb Memorial Scholarship
  • Sam Polen Memorial Scholarship for Audiology Students
