About the Team:
The WWU Women's Rugby Club was established in 1977 and has been growing steadily for the past 45 years. What was once a small, self-coached group is now a strong program of 30+ students who have found their place on the pitch and created an inclusive community while embracing all the amazing things this beloved sport has to offer.
In the 2022-2023, the Vikings placed 1st in the PMRC Division 1 League. We later moved on to Regionals in California, where we placed 3rd overall. This was only our 5th year in the league and we have improved immensely as the season went on, now becoming a force to be reckoned with. We are so grateful for the opportunity to play at Regionals, since it was the first time in 5 years. Our players have grown so much since the beginning of the season and their hard work paid off.
The resilient players of WWU's Women’s Rugby program welcome a fresh generation of newcomers each year and are constantly working to challenge themselves and grow as not only a team, but as individuals. We are so grateful for our amazing volunteer coaches Kaylie Gladwell & Charlie Ronan who contribute countless hours of their time to this team and bring a plethora of rugby knowledge. We wouldn't be where we are today without them! We would also like to thank all of our friends, families, and fans that have supported us throughout this long, successful season!
How this Give Day will help us:
Our three primary goals for Give Day contributions is to lower our players’ individual dues, have more funds for traveling, and to expand the WWU Women’s Rugby community to our youth programs. As a club sport, most of our funding comes from the players themselves and the team’s fundraising efforts. Support from family, friends, and our community is what allows us to keep this team running. Donating on Give Day will solidify our teams’ foundations in what is truly important: the people that are a part of it. Once that goal has been met, any additional funds will be applied to league and tournament registration costs. This will allow us to keep playing and meeting new teams as we expand the rugby community here in the Pacific Northwest.
