This June, nearly 40 student musicians from the WWU Symphony Orchestra will embark on an eight-day, six-night concert tour of Spain, with stops in Barcelona, Valencia, and Granada—including a performance at Barcelona's iconic Palau de la Música Catalana.
Along the way, Western's orchestra students will also engage with local musicians, spend time exploring the many diverse influences that make Spanish culture so unique, and visit important historical sites, including:
This tour is a reboot of a trip to Prague and Vienna that was scheduled for the summer of 2020, but had to be canceled due to the pandemic. Over the last year, between student payments, concert ticket revenue, and the generous support of individual donors, the WSO has successfully collected funds to cover the nearly $200,000 cost of the trip. All that remains to be raised is $7,000 in unexpected overruns for the rental of cellos, percussion, and other equipment overseas.
The cost for each student participant is $3,000. Every dollar raised beyond our $7,000 goal will go directly back to our students to reduce the cost of their participation.
All Give Day contributions are partially matched from a pool of matching funds, maximizing the impact of your gift. Every gift makes a difference, and there are special bonuses for the parents and families of WWU Students.
Travel opportunities like this are invaluable to our students, not only in their musical lives, but also in their larger growth and development as global citizens. In keeping with the WWU Music Department's shared value of bringing access to world-class musical experiences to all of our students, your contribution today will help to ensure that every student who wants to participate in this experience will have the ability to do so.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT!
