College graduation rates for low-income and underserved students is 20 percent lower than the rest of the population. Here at The College of the Environment, we believe it is critical we fix this “opportunity gap.” This is why the college has made need-based admissions scholarships it’s top fundraising goal this give day through what we are calling our access scholarships. As a sign of this commitment, last year the college re-purposed eight existing scholarships into need-based, multi-year admissions scholarships for deserving students who might not otherwise be able to afford to attend Western Washington University and study at The College of the Environment. Going forward, we hope to create many more such scholarships!
An investment in Access Scholarships will create opportunities for underrepresented students to pursue environmental degrees and diversify the environmental movement. This is crucial because environmental issues effect minority and impoverished communities at a greater rate so we need those communities represented in our environmental education and solutions.
Please consider supporting The College of the Environment's Access Scholarships today, a percentage of all gifts will be matched so lets make some waves!
