What is MACS?
Marine and Coastal Science (MACS) is an interdisciplinary degree program that brings together expertise from the WWU Departments of Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Sciences, Geology, and the Shannon Point Marine Center. MACs provides unique hands-on, immersive opportunities for students interested in our oceans and preserving them for future generations. MACS students get their feet - and hands - wet through boat-based research activities, field excursions, laboratory study of marine organisms, and capstone research.
Investing in MACS students
We are raising funds with the goal of reducing costs so all students, no matter their socioeconomic status, can follow their dream of becoming a marine scientist. Your donation to the Marine and Coastal Science Fund will allow us to apply fund where they are most critically needed. Your donation could fund, for example:
$10: Air stones for an ocean acidification experiment
$25: A pair of rubber boots for field work
$50: Four nutrient analyses for students studying water quality in the Salish Sea
$100: A half-day boat trip for a MACS class
$250: A course fee subsidy for a first-year student's residential stay at the Shannon Point Marine Center
100% of all donations directly support MACS students.
An anonymous donor has agreed to match all MACS Give Day donations up to the first $5,000, so your donation today has double value for our students. Thank you for your generous support of promising students who will become tomorrow's marine science leaders.
