Political Science
Thank you for supporting the Political Science Department and our Amazing Students!

About

The Political Science Department was established at Western Washington University in 1964 with four faculty and approximately 50 majors.  Today our program has grown to 22 faculty and instructors and over 300 students.  We offer four majors and a minor and more than 50 courses in American Politics and Public Policy, Political Theory, International Relations and Comparative Politics.

We are committed to strengthening the research and teaching excellence of the department and continuing our outreach to the community through the Ralph Munro Institute for Civic Education and other community forums.

Vision

The mission of the Political Science Department is to provide programs to our students that foster critical, independent thinking about politics and public life. Courses provide an understanding of political concepts and the organization and function of political systems. Our major programs equip students with the ability to understand political theories and to gain knowledge and experience through written work, lectures, reading, active learning and internships. In addition, the Department plays an important role in the broader arena of civic education in the University, the community and the state.

Impact

Your gift to the Political Science Department this year will fund scholarships, student-faculty research, travel to conferences, guest speakers and career networking opportunities.

You can also contribute to an existing scholarship such as the Ken Hoover scholarship or consider creating a named scholarship opportunity such as the new Joseph Dozal Political Science Scholarship.

We are grateful for your support!
