Viking Track & Field and Cross Country supporters,
2020 marked a year of great loss for Western Track & Field and Cross Country. In addition to losing Outdoor Track & Field and our Cross Country season in the fall we also mourned the loss of legendary Track & Field and Cross Country Coach Bill Roe. For more than 35 years Bill gave selflessly as a coach, mentor and friend to the Viking distance runners and the Viking program as a whole. We can't all be Bill Roe, but we can support Western Track & Field and Cross Country in a variety of ways. Will you be a supporter?
With the opportunity to compete again this spring, our program has dedicated the season to honoring Bill, and our teams put forth a legendary effort in his name. There is no doubt that Bill would have been proud of his Vikings at the GNAC championships this past weekend where the Men's team won another team title setting a team points record of 286 and the Women's team finished a close second to SPU. Bill's distance squad led the way by winning every distance event (800, 1500, 3k Steeple, 5k and 10k as well as the Women's 3k Steeple). In total, Western Men's Team won 11 of the 21 contested events and the Women's team added an additional four victories.
Help us honor Bill’s legacy by encouraging our young men and women and contributing to this year's Track & Field and Cross Country Give Day Campaign. Proceeds will go toward assistant coach stipends and the Bill Roe Scholarship for student athletes.
Track and Field athletes from the 70's and 80's have also joined together to establish the Brent Golden Memorial Scholarship in memory of their teammate Brent Golden, class of 1980, who left us far too soon. For more information about this scholarship, visit: wwugiveday.wwu.edu/gdGoldenMemorial21.
Kind Regards,
Pee Wee
