Help end Period Poverty in Bellingham!

What is period poverty? Period poverty is the lack of access to period hygiene and education. Even though 26% of the world's population experiences periods, the subject is still stigmatized, inaccessible, and expensive. Periods cost a lot of money and for many reasons, this price tag is an unnecessary barrier between resources and supplies. In one person's lifetime, they can spend  $1,773.33 just on tampons alone. This year alone 1 in 4 women have struggled to buy period products. Periods affect our social, emotional, and physical health. Many people have limited options for affordable menstrual materials. Providing low-cost menstrual materials can help keep people experience periods safely.

Covid has only magnified these issues! The pandemic has caused widespread shortages and price increases. We all have already faced new many struggles during the pandemic, and the increased financial strains and emotional burdens have made life harder. The Covid-19 pandemic has left many struggling to manage their periods.

Planned Parenthood Generation is a Western Washington University club committed to working within the community to advocate and educate. PPGen WWU does outreach in the community and at school in the form of sexual health education and activism, acting as a resource for students to learn about Planned Parenthood and its services. It is part of the Planned Parenthood Action Network, a protective advocacy and service initiative to expand and secure reproductive justice for future generations.

This month we invite you to join us in raising money to buy period products. Please donate what you can and help keep someone safe during their next period. With your help, we will donate period products to the WYCA. Let's work to fight period poverty in Bellingham together!
