We are the student-run chapter of SACNAS at WWU! SACNAS stands for the Society for the Advancement of Chicanos and Native Americans in Science, an inclusive national organization dedicated to fostering the success of all peoples, especially Chicanos and Native Americans in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math). WWU SACNAS has taken the responsibility of mentoring students interested in all fields of science. Our club helps by reaching out to students and providing information on research, graduate school, and jobs in STEM fields, and in fostering a friendly and welcoming environment for people of color working to pursue a future in science.
Our events and collaborations are essential to many students whether they are graduating seniors, incoming freshmen, or middle and elementary schoolers just discovering their fascination with science. However, we do need funding to make these events, like our annual REU (Research Experience for Undergraduates)/Internship Workshop or GEMS (Girls in Engineering, Math, and Science) Fair, possible.
Most importantly, we hope that you can donate to our club so we can continue sending members to the annual SACNAS National Diversity in STEM Conference. This conference helps us network and learn more about how to better get people of color involved in science! In 2019 we were able to send six members to the conference held in Honolulu, Hawaii with the assistance of funding and scholarships from WWU's College of Science and Engineering and the national SACNAS organization. Please help us continue our awesome events and send even more members to conferences!
