Hi Viking Volleyball Fans!!
From our family to yours, we sincerely hope that all of you are safe and healthy! We are excited to leave 2020 in the rearview mirror as we look forward to the 2021 Fall Season, and a time where we can slowly get back together again. It has been a wild roller coaster ride where some times we put our hands up and yelled, "Wheeeeee!!!!" And other times where we held onto the safety bar and braced for impact! However, the future is looking bright and we are working hard to maximize the opportunities ahead of us!
Our preseason is going to be outstanding! We will open the fall schedule with the WWU Volleyball Invitational over Labor Day weekend where will host Metro State, Chaminade and Sonoma State. The last time we hosted a pre-season tournament was in 2007 so to bring these quality opponents to the electricity of Carver Gym is so exciting! The next weekend we are headed to Colorado to play in The Premier which is the toughest tournament in the country! All the top teams from Division II go there to be tested and compete against the best! We feel very fortunate to have the availability and the invitation to go.
While the opportunities are awesome and keep us pounding away at what we do, the reality of the past year isn't so awesome. Many people have been affected by the pandemic in so many different ways, and we too, are not immune to the consequences. That is where we need your help on Give Day!
We need your assistance is in the operations of running the program. Our overall goal is to maintain the excellence that WWU Volleyball is known for by prioritizing our needs with a new found appreciation filter that we have. Competing against the best, recruiting throughout Washington state to bring in the best, and training at our best are all compromised by the potential financial shortfall that the university is facing. We are asking for your support to maintain the excellence that is WWU Volleyball, but we know that doesn't come without responsibility on our part.
Our primary focuses are on the people and the experiences! The people are all the relationships of the Vikings Volleyball Family (the student-athletes, their families, the alumni, the kids, our community)...everything we lost while we had to isolate from one another. And the experiences are the times we had building those relationships (kids clinics, matches with fans, community service). That is the part that is on us to create, cultivate and maintain.
Like I said earlier, we are more than excited for what's to come, but also know that much work is ahead of us during the recovery. We appreciate you and thank you so much for any support you can give! We are looking forward to a rocking Carver Gym some day and sincerely hope you will be right there with us!
