Viking soccer family and friends, I hope everyone is safe and healthy and I wanted to let you know that we are ready to go for the fall 2021 season campaign. We have had quite ride the past 13 months navigating this world as a college athletics program. It has been a rollercoaster to say the least. Seeing friends suffer in this pandemic and seeing fellow college programs disappear during this time has not been easy. Fortunately for the WWU men’s soccer program, we have been able to maintain and the resolve of the players during this time has been amazing.
We were able to compete in a modified training and game season this past winter and spring and it was not always the best with all of the outside distractions, but what kept us strong and able to improve throughout was us being together as a group. And this means you also, from the text threads to phone calls with alumni and friends of the program throughout and the most rewarding was seeing parents and friends able to watch your boys play this spring, that meant a lot to all of us and kept us going.
We have a great pre-season schedule with another year of one of the toughest non-conference schedules in the country. We will continue our rivalry with Chico and Sonoma the first weekend, then will host two top RMAC schools from Colorado the third weekend. For the fourth weekend we will face three top Pac West schools to finish off the non-conference schedule. After those 7 games we will begin defending our GNAC title in hopes for another bid to the national tournament.
We do need your help and assistance in progressing as a program. I do understand that if this is not a good time for you to give then I definitely understand that. But if you are in a position to give, I and the program will greatly appreciate it. Every dollar goes to the players experience. It can be as little as making sure we have enough yellow bibs for trainings to something as a proper meal the night before playing Chico.
The program has made great strides the past 8 years. This would not be possible without you. One thing I have learned this past 13 months is all we have is each other as a program. We will not be immune from consequences from the pandemic and we will need your help to persevere. Everything is important and it all adds up.
I am very excited for the upcoming fall season. We cannot wait to see you at Harrington this fall and whatever support you can give us we will greatly appreciate.
