About the team:

The WWU Women's Rugby Club was established in 1977 and has been growing steadily for the past 40 years. What was once a small, self-coached group is now a strong program of 30+ students who have found their place on the pitch and created an inclusive community while embracing all the amazing things this beloved sport has to offer.

In the 2020 season, the Vikings placed 2nd in the PMRC Division 1 League. This was only our third year in the league and we have improved immensely, now becoming a force to be reckoned with. This last  postseason, our team was supposed to host a playoff tournament where several teams from California, Oregon, and Washington would compete. During this tournament, teams from across the conference who have never played each other would have been able to stretch their wings and gain valuable experience. However, it was canceled due to the outbreak of  COVID-19.

Covid made it so that we were not able to practice or compete this year. However, we are excited to get back into the swing of things! With our continued growth and improvement, we hope to finish first in the league next year and compete in our conference playoffs in California.

The resilient players of WWU's rugby program welcome a fresh generation of newcomers each year and are constantly working to challenge ourselves and grow as not only a team, but as individuals. We are so grateful for our amazing volunteer coach Chris Rowell who donates countless hours of his time to this team and brings with him a plethora of rugby knowledge. We wish him luck in his future endeavors and we wouldn't we where we are today without him! Therefore we are looking for a new coach for this 2021-2022 season!

How this Give Day will help us:

Our primary goal for Give Day contributions is to lower our players’ individual dues. As a club sport, most of our funding comes from the players themselves and the team’s fundraising efforts. Support from friends, family, and our community is what allows us to keep this team running. Donating on Give Day will solidify our teams foundations in what is truly important: the people that are a part of it. Once that goal has been met, any additional funds will be applied to league and tournament registration costs. This will allow us to keep playing and meeting new teams as we expand the rugby community here in the Pacific Northwest.
