After a Long and Difficult Break, WWU Baseball is Eager to Return to Action

After two cancelled seasons and many days away from the ballpark, we look for donations to help make the 2021-2022 season one to remember!

Give Day Contributions

Every athlete dreams of being able to play the sport they love for as long as possible, and this team represents an opportunity for its members to continue this dream. However, with a highly competitive travel program comes heavy costs that fall on the shoulders of the student athletes. Donations significantly decrease the financial burden that comes with the team participating in the National Club Baseball Association. These funds will help cover travel expenses, facility rentals and equipment purchases for future members of our organization. Every penny counts! Our athletes are very appreciative to have the ability to continue to play, and are even more appreciative of donations to our program!

2019-2020 and 2020-2021 Season Cancellations Due to Covid-19

Due to these difficult times Westerns club baseball teams two most recent seasons, like nearly all others across the United States, were cancelled before they even began. Back in March of 2020. we were fortunate enough to compete in pre-season series against the University of Washington, Green River Community College, and Grays Harbor College. However the day before the 2020-2021 regular season began, the season was cancelled as the travel ban and stay at home orders were put in place.

This was extremely tough on all of our players, but especially for those juniors and seniors who were unaware that they had played their last collegiate baseball game and possibly last baseball game of their life. Like many teams across the nation, we were left to question what could've been with the spring season that we were so much looking forward too. For many of us who have had baseball be such an influential aspect in our lives, the lack of the sport leaves a void for a remarkable team. Although we missed the sport tremendously, we were happy that many of our players were back home, safe, and with their families amongst this extremely tough time. Now that it is safe enough to return, we are  greatly looking forward to stepping onto the field again with our teammates and brothers.

About WWU Vikings Baseball

The WWU Baseball team is a competitive club sports team at Western Washington University competing as a Division-I member of the National Club Baseball Association. The team is comprised of athletes who played high school baseball and some who even played at the NCAA collegiate level and are looking to continue their careers.

As a member of the NCBA’s Northern Pacific North Conference, the team competes at a very high level each year against its fellow Pacific Northwest Schools including University of Oregon, Oregon State University, Gonzaga University, and Eastern Washington University. The program has been highly successful in recent years making it to the conference championship in four out of the last five seasons. In the 2013 season, the program advanced all the way to the NCBA World Series in Tampa, Florida where they faced the nations top club baseball teams.

We are fortunate enough to play home games at the historic Joe Martin Field in Bellingham, and are always excited to see fans in attendance. Admission is always free, so come out and show your support for the Vikings!
