With the development of the new WWU Marine and Coastal Sciences program, SPMC is finding new ways to support hands-on student learning. Opportunities range from the 2-week residential Marine Science Scholars program for incoming freshmen to field and laboratory courses for junior and senior-level students. Through these experiences, students spend time in and on our remarkable Salish Sea environments. In 2019 alone, 111 students were enrolled in courses at SPMC and SPMC vessels made 114 trips involving 783 passengers. That demand continues to grow as we increase cooperative activities with the Biology Department, the Geology Department, and the Department of Environmental Sciences.
Help us support the next generation of marine scientists by contributing to the Shannon Point Marine Center fund. 100% of all donations directly support student activities at SPMC.
