Questions and Answers

Below you will find answers to many common questions about WWU Give Day 2020.

I cannot afford to make a large gift. Will my donation really make a difference?

Yes! When we collectively give back, even the smallest donation makes a difference. On #WWUGiveDay, a percentage of every gift will be matched, making your impact even greater.

Additionally, your gift contributes to our University donor participation rate, which raises Western’s profile in national rankings and increases the value of a Western degree.

Where are the matching gifts coming from?

Members of the WWU Foundation Board, the WWU Alumni Association and other alumni and supporters have generously provided this year’s WWU Give Day matching funds and challenge events.

What can I give to on Western Give Day?

You decide! Donations can be made to your favorite department, program or scholarship on campus. Scroll down and click on the buttons for colleges, departments and programs to learn how your gift can make an impact, or call (360) 650-3274 with to learn more about the areas and projects on campus that need your support.

I have a question that is not answered on this page. Who can I contact?

How can I participate?

Simply by donating, you will make an impact—giving even a little changes a lot. To get more involved, sign up to become an ambassador and spread the word far and wide. We also encourage you to post about WWU Give Day on social media using #WWUGiveDay.

What are the Charitable Giving Incentives included in the CARES Act?

The new law allows all taxpayers to take a charitable deduction of up to $300, even if you do not itemize. A reduction in taxable income is available in 2020 for individuals who do not itemize their deductions. It is an “above-the-line” adjustment to income that will reduce your adjusted gross income (AGI) and thereby reduce taxable income. This adjustment is available for cash gifts to registered non profits like the WWU Foundation and is limited to $300 per taxpayer ($600 for a married couple). It is not available for gifts to donor advised funds.

Is there a minimum donation amount?

You can make a gift of $10.00 or more to participate in Western's Give Day. Every gift counts and makes a difference.

Can my employer match the gift I make on #WWUGiveDay?

Many companies will match their employees' gifts to the University, increasing its impact or even doubling or tripling its value! Contact your human resources department to find out if your company will match your gift.

Is my contribution tax-deductible?

Yes, your gift is deductible as a charitable contribution for federal income tax purposes to the maximum extent allowed by the law.

Will I receive a receipt for my contribution?

Yes, your gift is processed immediately and you will receive an official receipt via email.

When will my credit card be charged?

Your credit card will be charged immediately upon finalizing your gift on Give Day.

Whom should I contact with questions about my contribution?
