Elliot Scott, a double major in Chinese and Environmental Studies, unexpectedly passed away in mid-April 2020. His academic and field work focused on environmental restoration, sustainable living and permaculture homesteading. He was a senior and expected to graduate in December 2020 with dreams of living in China and pursuing regenerative agriculture. He is remembered as a genuine, kind-hearted, passionate, and free-spirited individual, who cared deeply for those around him and the environment.
Earlier this year Elliot accepted his dream job at the Outback, Western’s student run farm, as the Permaculture Coordinator. This leadership position allowed him to care for the forest garden, restore wetland habitats, construct a new site for the Outback Apiary, and teach others about regenerative agriculture. Elliot’s hard work and dedication to the farm was unmatched.
In addition to his passion and commitment to sustainable food systems, Elliot loved to climb, ski, skateboard, and run. Through personal travels and a study abroad in China, he made friends around the globe; Elliot knew and loved everyone. His light will be carried by those near and far.
In his honor, family and friends seek to establish an endowed scholarship to support current and future students who are passionate about sustainable food systems and the environment. Our goal is $25,000; gifts of all size are meaningful and accepted.
With love and gratitude,
The Family and Friends of Elliot Scott
