This is the third year that the Career Services Center is participating in Give Day! We remain grateful for donations initially received to launch a clothing closet which provides free professional attire for the Western Community. With the unexpected transition to virtual operations, the Career Services Center was able to offer career-prep workshops for students/alumni, implement Handshake to replace Viking CareerLink and conduct 1:1 appointments between students/alumni and career advisors using Zoom. A year of remote learning has rapidly led to the use of so many previously underutilized technologies to collaborate. In recognition of the importance of promoting professional networking opportunities for students and alumni we would like to focus on raising funding to waive the annual cost for current students to join (or renew) membership costs to participate in professional affinity associations. We sincerely thank all who helped with what has proved to be very needed resources for our students and alumni. welcoming incoming students to Western, we anticipate a significant need among current students and recent graduates who have experienced a recent job or internship loss.
We know that participation in professional associations can lead to developing a network of connections, opportunities for civic and community engagement, facilitate competent communications and provide mentorship and mentees. We will have a list of suggested membership organizations featured at our website wwu.edu/careers in the next few weeks.
Thank you for your interest in learning how your financial contributions will help facilitate the implementation and expansion of resources available to current students and Western Graduates!
