We are the Young Democrats of WWU, a club geared toward getting students involved in politics on the local and national level.
At our weekly meetings we discuss and debate current events, unpacking them to see how we can make a difference.
Every year we host a ballot day where we inform students voting in Washington State about the various measures and candidates. This is especially helpful for incoming freshman who recently updated their voting registration.
During election season, we go through a formal process of inviting local candidates to our meetings to speak in order to receive our endorsements. We provide support to candidates by training students to canvass, phone bank, and campaign in other ways.
We recently welcomed Representative Rick Larsen to a town-hall style discussion so Western students could get to know their Rep.
Last year we hosted a speaking series called Politics of Diversity where we invited women (including current mayoral candidate Pinky Vargas) and LGBTQ+ identifying people to talk about their experiences in politics.
Every year we travel to the Young Democrats of Washington Conference, an two day event put on by our parent organization. This conference not only provides a great opportunity to learn from politically involved people, it also helps WWU students network within the Washington State political community.
We can't host events like these without your help! Our club is entirely funded through Give Day donations, so please consider contributing to allow us to continue educating the students of WWU, ourselves included, on how to get involved in our community.
