The Black Revolutionary Womxn Group (BWRG) was created in response to the historic lack of support and resources for Black students within Western Washington University, particularly for Black womxn.
It was agreed that the creation of a space designed for Black womxn by Black womxn was desperately needed. This space has aimed to uplift and heal its members through communal support, but now, we would like it to also provide guidance, mentorship, student employment, and more important opportunities for the continual growth of all members—present and future.
During the 2019-2020 Western Washington University academic year, there will be variety of events including but not limited to: Black networking; discussing the complexities of being a Black womxn; the healing and remodeling we have to do within our Black community; and workshops/Q&A panels with accomplished and community-oriented Black women sharing their knowledge.
These events will occur over the course of the three academic quarters, under the title: Black Womxn Revolutionary Group’s Justice Series. We hope that with larger scale events, the BWRG will be able to reach more students within WWU and other colleges, but moreso, to connect with Black womxn that live in Bellingham, separate of these institutions.
We have created this Viking Funder page to raise the necessary amount so that we may be able to compensate the labor of the Black womxn involved in organizing the BWRG’s Justice Series events, as well as ensuring the preservation of the group for years to comes. We are reaching out to individuals and organizations in Bellingham that are in solidarity with Black womxn to support these efforts.
