Computer Science is the fastest growing field of study at Western. The discipline is exciting, socially impactful, and provides many challenging, rewarding, and lucrative jobs for graduates to pursue. Faculty specialize in areas such as Game Programming, Mobile Application Development, Machine Learning, Technology for Social Good, and Cybersecurity. Graduates are working as software engineers at places like Amazon, Microsoft, or Google. Some are involved with startup companies or data science positions. Others choose to pursue advanced graduate work in computer science.
Donation/Fund Choices:
- Computer Science Department Fund: Enables club activities, field trips to local and regional tech companies, and guest lectures.
- Computer Science Citizenship Award: Awarded at the end of each year to that person who exemplifies best the spirit of citizenship.
- Dr. James Johnson Memorial Endowment: Endowed by a generous gift from the family of first department chair, Dr. Johnson, to be used for student support.
- Computer Science Association for Women in Computing: Enables outreach and student activities organized by the Association for Women in Computing, who seek to build an empowering environment for minorities in Computer Science by providing opportunities for outreach, leadership, mentoring, and professional networking.
- CS Student Research Support: Enables undergrad and graduate students travel support for conferences and workshops resulting from student research projects mentored by faculty.
