Behavioral Neuroscience

YOU ARE HELPING THEIR FUTURE

By supporting students in behavioral neuroscience, you contribute directly to building critical skills and experiences that last a lifetime.

With the support from donors like you, we are working to exceed last year’s accomplishment of raising $12,000 to support student scholarships and undergraduate research opportunities that are essential in preparing students for post graduate employment and graduate school.  Starting at 12:00 am on May 30th, a percentage of donations will receive valuable matching funds from the University.  That is why the students and faculty of the BNS program will once again “Stay Up For Student Research” on the eve of May 30th (May 29th) 2019 to fundraise for:

  • Undergraduate scholarships
  • Paid research opportunities
  • Travel to local and national scientific meetings
  • Support for Invited Speakers and Symposiums

A heart felt THANK YOU from the “Stay up for Student Research” crew of 2018

Student Impact

Abigail Alpers, Junior, Neurodiagnostics Intern, Research Assistant,
Neurobiology of Schizophrenia Lab
BNS Student Scholarship Recipient 2018-2019

"This year I was able to attend the Society for Neuroscience conference and help present a poster, which was an amazing experience! I've also been able to spend time in the lab learning new techniques, as well as take the three new BNS courses, which were wonderful classes. In addition I'm about to start the Neurodiagnostic internship, which I am very excited for."

Derek J. MacDougall, Senior, Neurodiagnostics Intern, Research Assistant and contributing author, Neurobiology of Relapse Lab
BNS Student Scholarship Recipient 2018-2019

"The Behavioral Neuroscience Program provided me an immense amount of educational opportunities. In particular, it permitted my studies of reward, addiction/craving, and relapse in Dr. Grimm's laboratory, and allowed me to share recent research with fellow neuroscientists at the 2018 Society for Neuroscience conference in San Diego. I am sincerely grateful for the scholarship donors, professors, and student colleagues who continue to inspire my success as I plan to graduate and pursue a research career upon my graduation this spring."

"I've had the amazing opportunity to work in Dr. Grimm's lab looking at environmental enrichment in the context of addiction and relapse for the past year and a half. I've learned skills ranging from rat estrous cycle cytology to intraperitoneal drug injections and I'm constantly learning on the job from my professors and colleagues. I had the privilege to attend the 2018 Society for Neuroscience conference in San Diego and present research with two of my colleagues. In addition, I've had the opportunity to conduct my own 30-day pilot study. On a daily basis, I get to work with people who share a passion for neuroscience, insatiable curiosity, and a great sense of humor. I want to thank our donors for making this invaluable experience possible and thank everyone who works in the BNS labs for making this place feel like home."
