About
The Political Science Department was established at Western Washington University in 1964 with four faculty and approximately 50 majors. Today our program has grown to 18 faculty and instructors and over 200 majors. We offer more than 50 courses in American Politics and Public Policy, Political Theory, International Relations and Comparative Politics. We are committed to strengthening the research and teaching excellence of the department and continuing our outreach to the community through the Ralph Munro Institute for Civic Education and other community forums.
Vision
The mission of the Political Science Department is to provide programs to our students that foster critical, independent thinking about politics and public life. Courses provide an understanding of political concepts and the organization and function of political systems. Our major programs equip students with the ability to understand political theories and to gain knowledge and experience through written work, lectures, reading, active learning and internships. In addition, the Department plays an important role in the broader arena of civic education in the University, the community and the state.
Impact
Your gift to the Political Science Department this year will fund student-faculty research, guest speakers, travel to conferences, career networking opportunities and most importantly, scholarships.
