Art & Art History
Building a Body of Work

In the past four years, we have hired five new tenure-track faculty who are bringing a lot of excitement to the program:

  • a revitalized Ceramics program
  • a new area of Time-Based Arts, focused on video, animation, and performance
  • a new Art History position dedicated to the arts of Africa and its diaspora

Faculty and students are involved in staging exhibitions at the Western Gallery; this fall we mounted an exciting exhibition: “Coded Threads: Textiles and Technology,” which was curated by our Professor of Fibers and Fabrics, Seiko Atsuta Purdue; assisted by the director of our Art Studio Foundations Program, Pierre Gour.

  • fund field trips to art museums and galleries in Seattle and Vancouver, BC
  • support student attendance at annual conferences such as
    • the Society for Photographic Education
    • The Southern Graphics Council
  • provide Art & Art History Department scholarships for students
