Fairhaven College of Interdisciplinary Studies
Help make a difference for Fairhaven College

About

Fairhaven College is the interdisciplinary, liberal arts college of Western Washington University. We are a small learning community where students take an uncommon degree of responsibility for the direction of their own education. Fairhaven students can design their own degrees by drawing from the resources at Fairhaven College and the larger university.

Values

Fairhaven College of Interdisciplinary Studies at Western Washington University cultivates student responsibility for designing and assessing learning through interdisciplinary inquiry, creativity, and scholarship. With an emphasis on justice, social and environmental responsibility and cultural diversity, we challenge ourselves through active, innovative, and experiential learning to examine our choices, roles, and purposes in the world.

Fairhaven College is distinguished by:

  • Small, seminar-style courses at a public university
  • Narrative evaluations instead of grades
  • Close advising relationships with faculty
  • Opportunities for independent and international study
  • Student-designed interdisciplinary degrees

Impact

All gifts to Fairhaven support student learning and enrichment. For example, a gift to Fairhaven College's general fund will support expenses such as the World Issues Forum, Student Development Grants, or community events such as graduation or community lunch.   You may also choose to specify a specific use for your gift, if it is one of our identified funding priorities.

One important way our donors enrich student learning is by making gifts in support of student financial aid. Gifts for scholarships and student grants provide direct and meaningful support to Fairhaven's students. Donations of $20,000 or more can be used to create new named scholarship endowments. Smaller gifts can help grow existing scholarships, or support Fairhaven's general fund.
